Santa brought my child an electric guitar for Christmas. He recently lost interest in Eminem and picked up an insane love for AC/DC. So, his new goal is to play football for Alabama and be in an AC/DC cover band. I'm not even sure the two are possible at the same time.

I miss home

Have been purposely ignoring the internet lately. When I log on it's like a time warp.

In the last 30 days my lovely job has sent me to 4 cities. I'm going back to Muncie, IN next week. My boss has asked that I spend every other week there until October. I feel like I'm commuting, like I don't really even work here anymore.

Quick highlights:

Minneapolis - I saw a parade. People stood waiting for it for nearly two hours. It included lame floats being pulled by riding lawnmowers and lots of beauty queens with their "Ladies in Waiting" (some of these ladies were in their eighties - what where they waiting for?). Needless to say, nothing was thrown to the audience and there was no drinking. It was so quiet you could here the people on the "floats" talking to each other. ???

Indiana - uh, no highlights. Wait, I did convince someone they weren't right for a job which is much better than firing.

Las Vegas - nice but wouldn't want to live there. I saw a fountain show at a Casino that was choreographed to the song Hey Big Spender.

Los Angeles - yeah, here's the good one. I went to work in our office there for three days. After leaving work I drove my rental Explorer, in my business suit, to Pomona. Pomona happens to be the latin ghetto, I believe it's called a barrio. I drove around looking for my homeless father who was rumored to be in the area. It was completely surreal and unsuccessful.

I visited my sister in Birmingham this weekend. We went to Vulcan Park with the sole intention of checking out the steel giant's ass. It was worth seeing.

My moving to Daphne adventure has been put off until September 25th. I'm considering hiring movers to move the big stuff. I really don't want to deal with trying to get the washing machine up the stairs to the new apartment.

since you asked

Rewind 24 hours. I'm stuck on a runway in Dallas. We were not scheduled to go there but ran out of gas circling Houston from Indianapolis. We ended up stuck on this plane for 7 hours. I convinced the 40 something German law professor sitting next to me to do a dance routine with me. Then I convinced the Asian business man next to us to sing. It was some crazy song to the tune of The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round.

Arrival in Houston at 11pm. Computers down - I ask, "Has the flight for Mobile left yet?" She answers, "I have no idea, let me call Mobile airport to see if it's there." Which it was.

Two and a half hours in line to be rebooked for a 7:20am flight. The person behind me was a prisoner being extradited with two police officers. He was so young and so very very sad. He kept trying to cover his handcuffs under his shirt cuff.

Arrival at hotel in Houston at 2:30am - departure from hotel to airport at 5:30am.

Home at 9:30. Work at 10:00. Crazy hurricane preparations.

Grandmother calls so very excited. She's found someone who knows my long lost father. He frequents a homeless shelter in Pomona, CA. I have a business trip to Pomona on August 8th. A co-worker has a close friend who is the Chief of Police in, you guessed it, Pomona. I get to romp around the homeless shelters to find my father. I only plan to hand him my cell phone and tell the bastard to call his distraught mother.

I've seen my child for 3 hours since Monday morning. He leaves in 2 hours for Columbus, GA. I am evacuating to Birmingham at 4am.

This has been the best day ever!

So, I decided I get a drunk post after my birthday. Yes, it's 5am and somehow my old self has not yet punked out. The Vomit Spots were actually fun tonight. I thought I remembered that they were really bad but I was tipsy enough to enjoy it tonight.

I'm pretty sure I did a lot of birthday shots. I also didn't pay for anything but somehow lost my debit card. That's going to suck tomorrow.

This is my favorite month. I have 12 days left at work for the year. Now, I need a project.....hopefully one unlike the drunken binge I went on during my Thanksgiving time off. I need time away from my social life. The drama is getting to me.

I think I will reorganize my house. Maybe work on a new photography project (considering I've completed none of the ones I tried in the past). Kids game night is definitely on - Clue sounds good.

I want a fireplace.

Gabe and I just finished his first real project for school. He had to make a poster on Ulysses S. Grant. Turns out that guy was not a great president. Turns out that's not even his real name. Blah. We fought through the whole thing. My child is sloppy and I have a difficult time with it.

I'm super excited about taking Friday off from work. I have no reason to do so and that's why it's going to be fun. I'm going to read a book and have coffee at Carpe Diem for the majority of the day.

I have to go back to stupid Anaheim next week. This time it's a 6 day trip and I'm staying at the Disneyland Hotel. I called to make a change on a hotel room the other day and a very peppy representative said my confirmation number was "G as in Goofy, V as in Vacation, M as in Mickey, F as in Fun". I'm not a big fan of Disney but will do my best not to push anybody down.

I need to vent -

1. I wasn't able to get home as planned after the storm. I HATED being "stuck" in California and having no idea when I was going home. I flew into Mobile airport on Friday afternoon though.

2. My car is still at the Pensacola airport. Stupid 7pm curfew is tough to make.

3. I have power! But unfortunately most of the people I knew didn't. I had an assorted houseful until today.

4. My phone cord is in my front yard and is no longer attached to anything. The phone company says it'll be October 18 when they get to it. No internet is no fun.

5. My ceiling in the dining room has quite a bit of damage and looks like it's about to fall in.

6. Catching up on on work has been horrific.

7. This one sucks ass -
My assistant of 3 years overdosed on Monday morning. I went to the open casket funeral yesterday and had a breakdown.

So yeah.

So, yeah. Stupid storm - I have an unreasonable urge to go home! I'm in San Jose, CA and my flight to Pensacola is scheduled to arrive Thursday night. Yeah, right.

So, I'm not sure where in the country or for how long I'll be stuck. San Jose, Houston (my connecting city), or Tulsa (another company facility).

I have an unnatural obsession with the weather channel right now. No sleeping for me!

My child is heading out tonight with his Stepmom to Meridian so at least he's safe. I've talked to too many of you guys today who have made the decision to stay. It's a freakin Category 4! Go, now! Okay, you're right, I would stay too.

Since I'll be stuck and bored for a few days you guys should call me with updates.

Did you see that Al Roker is in Point Clear?
So - got up at 5:30, as usual. Did the work thing and just got home. Now off to a work dinner at a very nice restaurant. Then off to Pensacola to see a show. I wonder if I'll agree with this statement at 1am....

I'm really glad I don't do this often though. It was more tolerable 5 years ago.

My child is attending Daphne public school this year because his Dad moved over there. I had the meet the teacher thing tonight. So I'll be driving from Mobile to Daphne and back every morning and evening. Not looking forward to it.

I did the meet the teacher thing then stopped at my Nana's house. We walked through the garden and picked eggplant, bell peppers, garlic, tomatoes, and jalapanos. Then I stopped at a friend's house around the corner. After we left we drove around looking at neighborhoods for awhile. I miss that not so little anymore town. I only live 20 minutes away but there is some strange draw to it. My kid gets annoyed with all the stories I have of the bay, the dam, the schools, the trails, and the people.

It's inevitable that I'm moving there in a few months. I'm sure this memory lane feeling will leave shortly after moving. It will happen the first time a family member knocks on my door unexpectedly.

Back home after a week in Minneapolis. It was 58 degrees when I left there this morning and was 100 degrees in Mobile when we landed. Yuck.

I'm going to San Antonio and San Francisco in a few weeks. Lots of travel this Fall.

I'm tired and I need a new focus.
